"text": "One of my favorite albums of all time!\n\nDespite being what MCR is mostly known for today, this is actually a concept album that tells the story of 2 people.\n\nOne is the Marcher, who died in the trenches of WWI alongside fellow soldiers and is doomed to walk the earth forever as a ghost.\n\nThe other is the Patient, who is a teenager dying of cancer. He lashed out after his diagnosis and drove everyone away from him, including his lover and closest friend.\n\nThe Marcher sees the Patient in the hospital and is moved by his condition, trying to convince him not to give up and to keep fighting - but ultimately the Patient does pass away from his disease and the Marcher guides him into the afterlife through The Black Parade.\n\nEach song is told from the perspective of one of the two characters, and the story is not told in chronological order; jumping around in the timeline and sometimes showing the same event from multiple perspectives (The End/Dead is the moment the Patient passes away and is greeted by the Marcher in the afterlife, and later Sleep revisits that same moment from the perspective of the Patient as the Marcher bursts in at the end crying out for the Patient to wake up and not give up).\n\nGenerally you can tell which character is talking based on the style of the music; there are exceptions, but generally the punk-rock songs with lots of screaming are told from the perspective of the Patient (such as in Teenagers), while the Marcher generally has the calmer songs without heavy electric guitar (such as in Mama and The Black Parade).\n\nAs I mentioned, people don't realize this is a concept album and thus miss all of the story contained within, and they associate this album with MCR generally (an image which the MCR guys tried to fight back against with their next album Danger Days - another concept album - but largely this image stuck). It's really a fantastic album that stands up to repeated listens again and again and again.",
